What is Ikigai?

Ikigai (生き甲斐) is a Japanese concept often translated as “a reason for being” or “a sense of purpose.”

In the West, Ikigai is often shown through a popular diagram, suggesting it’s something external — a big goal or achievement that gives life meaning. Read MyIkigai Newsletter #1

However, the authentic Japanese Ikigai begins small and comes from within. It lives in the quiet, simple moments of daily joy and appreciation — like savoring a morning coffee with a book, taking a short walk in nature, or noticing the beauty in ordinary things.

When you begin to intentionally do more of what brings you joy and excitement each day, and share that energy with others, you step into purposeful living — a beautiful and powerful way to live your prescious life.

  • 余白 (Yohaku) — the open space to breathe, feel joy, and simply be.

  • A deeper sense of meaning, hope, and energy for your everyday life.

  • Understanding and accepting yourself , wholly and kindly.

  • Connection with yourself, your family, community, and the world around you.

  • The freedom to grow and welcome every opportunity that comes your way.

  • A life that feels genuinely, uniquely beautifully yours.
